From mud, to magnificent.

Wet Clay

The first step is always my favorite.

Sitting down at the wheel, feeling the clay, and deciding where it’s going to take me.

As I throw, I enter my own state of meditation.

I try to connect with the clay as much as possible, yet i’ve also learned how to let it go- as many steps may not go according to plan.

my favorite ceramics quote symbolizes this:

“the potter becomes the pot”- Ram Das

LEather Hard

Once the clay dries a bit, I’m able to trim the foot and add final details.

I find satisfaction in turning a mediocre pot into a work of art, with the simple touch of a loop tool.

I finish it off by imprinting my makers mark.

the name “centered syd ceramics” is based off the idea that one should always aim to be centered on the wheel- and in life as well.

firing

As a previous studio manager and student, I’ve been lucky enough to gain experience loading many types of kilns; From electric and gas, to wood and raku.

firing clay to its highest potential temperature is essential in creating the strong material we all know, as ceramics.

this is how I glaze my pottery - by quickly dipping it into glazes that I mix myself.

This layer of liquid glass is what gives ceramics it’s smooth, clean, food safe surface.

Finally, after many time consuming- yet all very satisfying steps... we are left with the final reveal.

Finished, functional pottery.
